The target is a hand closer to twenty-one than the dealer’s without exceeding it. Number cards keep their value, face cards count as ten, and an ace can count as one or eleven. A two-card ace plus ten-value card is a natural blackjack.
If your hand busts, it normally loses immediately even if the dealer later busts. If you remain in the hand, the dealer’s completed total determines the comparison. Equal totals commonly push, returning the main stake, subject to the table rules.
After the initial deal, hit requests another card and stand ends your draws. Double down adds a stake in exchange for a restricted draw, while splitting creates two hands when allowed. Dealer actions follow fixed rules, including whether soft seventeen is hit or stood on. Natural-blackjack payouts, hole-card checks and resplitting permissions also vary. Confirm those details before choosing a basic-strategy chart because they can change the recommended move.
